How would you like to
step back in time and sit around a campfire,
carving and whittling, listening to a
spell-binding story or two?
In your hands the
shape of a spoon or bowl slowly emerges from
fresh, fragrant wood.
Native people took pride in making their own
utensils and their skill is evident in the beauty
and simplicity bestowed upon their work.
Whether you have ever carved anything from
wood or not, this workshop will teach and
enable you to become a confident woodcarver with
only the basic and simple tools at hand.
Amongst other things, we will aim to make a
traditional Swedish Kuksa bowl/cup.
You will be guided
through selecting suitable materials, different
carving techniques, knife safety and sharpening
and decorative chip carving. A quality craft
knife will be yours to keep.
Previous participants have found this
woodcarving workshop to be very relaxing and
highly addictive, so some advanced places are
available!
