The principal workshop venue is a glass fronted, timber framed octagonal
building complete with grass roof and wood burning stove.
| Known affectionately as the ‘tuffty top’, this
venue offers stunning southerly views over the city of Inverness and the
hills beyond. |

In addition to the main workshop space, the
venue also has a kitchen, toilet and library/reading room |

Accommodation comprises of two caravans each with one double, one twin and two
single bedrooms plus toilet and shower. All rooms have electric heating. The
wagons have been set into the hillside giving them a very ‘grounded’ feel. |
Additional accommodation comes in the form of a
wooden cabin also with shower and toilet facilities. |
 The
pavilion is nestled between the accommodation facilities and serves as the
dining room and general ‘chillout’ space. Large patio windows and exposed
roofing timbers give this room a special rustic charm. |

The ‘barrel’ formally used to store "whiskey mash" is now a place of
healing, where a range of therapies are undertaken

| The unlikely therapy room viewed under
construction has been transformed into a delightful ‘coothie’ space with
just a hint of a certain aroma!

The earth lodge is the most recent construction at Anam Cara,
which was built with the help of many volunteers whose efforts can be viewed
here at Anam
Cara's photo
bucket repository.
Building started in the April of 2008 and with a team of 15 hands the
building quickly took shape as 60 tonnes of stone were placed on top of each
other.

 The
roof is a reciprocal based system using locally cut timber from Muir of Ord
and then covered with straw, heather and finally turf to allow it to
disappear. |
With metre
thick stone walls, turf roof and cob floor, this cave in the hillside is
practically invisible.

After some tasteful landscaping and the addition of some very heavy duty
wooden doors the building is finally ready for use.

It
has been used for a couple of day events already this year and is now fully
furnished with skins, hides, skulls and bird wings. |
Seeing is believing for our Earthlodge |

The shrine room nestles in a secluded spot, and is always available for
meditation practice

Sweat lodges have become something of a feature of Anam Cara. The site
has been hosting lodges for the last ten years. Perhaps something of the
beauty of every lodge leaves its mark in this tranquil spot

A set of interconnecting paths allow easy access to the corners of Anam
Cara’s seven acres, one is never quite sure what might be discovered.

All food at Anam Cara is vegetarian. Workshops and retreats are fully
residential with meals provided. For working retreats, meals will be
prepared by participants. For Sweatlodge Ceremony weekends only,
participants will bring food to share.
