‘Going Back in Time’
Flint Knapping
with John & Val Lord
7-9 June

This three day workshop will provide a rare opportunity to learn the
ancient Neolithic art of flint knapping.
We will focus on the manufacture of blades, which can be used simply as
knives or a range of utility tools such as scappers or burins. Instruction
will be given on the use of these tools to shape wood, bone and antler in
the manufacture of needles and harpoon points. Blades can also be touched
up and used as projectile points for arrows and throwing spears. Many
blade tools may be fitted with wooden handles which improve their
efficiency. We will investigate the use of natural fibres in the making of
string and rope as a means of lashing. There will also be the option of
learning the skill of fire lighting with the use of a bow drill.
