Basic Steps in Storytelling

with Ian Macbeth

22-24 October

(Starts Friday evening)

The gentle art of storytelling has become increasingly popular in recent years with more and more people discovering the delights of sitting listening to a good tale well told.

The Highlands are steeped in tales of many kinds and Anam Cara offers a unique and inspiring setting in which the art of story telling can be nurtured. A weekend provides sufficient time to begin to appreciate and assimilate necessary basic skills in the supportive company of others at a similar level.

The course aims to build up confidence in both the creation and telling of stories through the practical application of basic understanding concerning story sources and selection, engagement with an audience, use of the voice, body language and eye contact leading to greater self-confidence and appreciation of how best to apply some of the fundamental skills required in the successful telling of a tale.

Ian Macbeth is a resident of the Highlands for the past 35 years, retired one time Drama and English schoolteacher, broadcaster, and now professional story-teller, running his own Story and Ballad Club for the past six years here in the Inverness area.

A second teller, Janet McInnes, best known throughout Scotland perhaps for her traditional stories, will also be present on the Saturday evening to share her experience and expertise.
