Community Gardening Day

Community Garden

With a view to increasing levels of self-sufficiency, we have over the last five years developed a large garden area, which encompasses a small forest garden alongside more traditional raised beds and a small soft fruit orchard. Embracing organic and permaculture principles, the garden now provides an increasing amount of tasty perennials and annuals, as well as creating a vibrant habitat with lots of wild edges, all with marvellous southerly views over Inverness. Our happy flock of Indian Runner ducks bring much joy to the garden and keep the slugs at bay.

There are also numerous terraces with fruit and nut crops spread around the croft as well as a host of wild harvesting and coppicing opportunities throughout the seasons.

We hold a 'Community Garden Day' every Wednesday, where members of the Anam Cara community welcome local volunteers to join in a fun day of shared gardening. In exchange for your good labour, we offer a hearty lunch and the promise of an enjoyably productive day.  All tools and equipment are provided. The day provides opportunity for learning more about gardening through skill- sharing and taking part in a whole range of tasks that can be adapted to suit all levels of energy.

10am-4pm every Wednesday. Please let us know in advance whether you plan to attend.

Be welcome!
