Swedish Woodcarving and
Whittling Skills
with Willow Lohr
27-29 August

How would you like to step back in time and sit around the campfire,
carving and whittling, talking or listening to a spellbinding tale or two?
In your hands the shape of a spoon or bowl slowly emerges from a
fresh piece of wood.
Native people on the trail took pride in making their everyday utensils
and tools. Their skill is evident in the balance between beauty and
simplicity bestowed upon their craftwork.
In traditional bushcraft style, we will only be using a few hand tools;
a knife, a saw and a crook knife. At first it may seem daunting and
impossible to create something from a hard log, but please be re-assured;
this workshop is for everyone! You will be guided through selecting
suitable materials from native trees, different cutting techniques, knife
safety, maintenance and sharpening, gradually more complex projects,
traditional designs, natural glue and cordage making, pyrography, etc.
This workshop is a must for all those who love gathering around the
fire, but hate sitting with idle hands! It is a great way to become good
at your knife and carving skills as well as being able to make wooden
utensils. No previous experience is necessary. Some advanced places
available. A quality training knife will be provided and is yours to keep.
